Hidalgo County Judge Cortez spoke eloquently during a meeting where leaders met to find a solution. He said, “We have a disproportionate percentage of people in poverty in Hidalgo County when you compare it to the percentage of Texas or the United States as a whole.” He continued, “We have created a prosperity task force to look into the complex issues of poverty.”

(Weslaco, TX.) Esperanza Homes broke ground today on their newest community, TEXAS HEIGHTS, in Weslaco.

Located in the heart of Weslaco on Texas Boulevard, TEXAS HEIGHTS is designed for first time homebuyers and those that are looking to move from renting to owning their dream home.

Homes prices at TEXAS HEIGHTS are slated to start in the $170’s.

The home designs feature a Contemporary, Tuscan, Traditional, and Farmhouse style exteriors. The homes boast open concept living spaces and next level energy efficient features.

The TEXAS HEIGHTS community will host 180 lots in total. Phase One will feature 79 lots.

Esperanza Homes’ President & CEO Nick Rhodes noted that Weslaco has been experiencing substantial growth over the past decade which encouraged the home building company to make a move into the growing Rio Grande Mid-Valley community.

The event called “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” was put together by IBC Weslaco. However, they had the participation of the Weslaco Chamber of Commerce as well as the RGV Partnership, both entities helped.

Behind the celebration, was the recent flooding Weslaco had experienced during the summer. The occasion was created to thank everyone that helped during the difficult times people had gone through because of excessive rain.

Adrian Villarreal, President, and CEO of IBC had the opportunity to speak and said, “I would like to recognize a few IBC directors who are here. Mr. Richard Cortez and Mr. Humberto Rodriguez. Thank you,” he said.

“I’ve been with IBC now for 25 years and recognize that the corporate culture is to believe in supporting the community that we serve firmly.”

Adrian presented a $1,000 check to First Baptist Church for the support, and their willingness to help the Weslaco community during the flooding. “Many organizations stepped up to help, and today we recognized First Baptist Church for their valuable contribution,” Adrian finalized.
